VOTIVE MASS
Votive Mass is a mass where a person or a group requested a mass for special intentions. There are four types of Votive Mass:
- MASS OF SUPLICATION or ENTREATY – This Votive Mass is for petition or special request. This is usually celebrated for a person who are sick. This Mass is also asking for grace to help a certain person.
- THANKSGIVING MASS – Is a Votive Mass for thanking God. This is usually celebrated the Church’s anniversary, wedding anniversay and special holidays.
- REQUIEM MASS – Is a Votive Mass for a person who departed. Requiem Mass was celebrated Monthly, before the Funeral, Death Anniversary and All Saints Days. Black is the color that the Priest and the Sacred Vessels used.
- NUPTIAL or WEDDING MASS – This Votive Mass is for a couple united in the Sacrament of Matrimony.
VIGIL MASS
Is a mass celebrated a night before the Sabbath Day (Sunday) or Special Feast Day like Easter Sunday, the Ascencion of our Lord, Pentecost and in Christmas Eve. For the Christians, Saturday Night is the beginning of the Sabbath Day.
CONCELEBRATED MASS
Is a Holy Mass that was celebrated by more than one Bishop and Priest. Even there are many bishops or priest celebrated the mass, there’s only one Priest or Bishop who leads them and the one who do the consecration. Sometimes, it’s the Archbishop or the Pope.
PAPAL MASS
Is a Holy Mass celebrated by the Pope and mainly assisted by the Cardinals.
SINE POPULO
From a latin word “Without the People”. This Holy Mass is also called Private Mass where the Priest Celebrated a Mass without faithful, but need one altar server to assist. A Priest who hasn’t celebrated a mass with the people mass celebrated this mass. All Priest are required to celebrate mass once a day. This mass was celebrated in Low Mass for Traditional Mas and on Daily Mass form for Novus Ordo. If you encounter a priest who celebrated the Mass in the church without the people or in a chapel, he is celebrating the Sine Populo.
SIMULTANEOUS MASS
Is a type of Sine Populo but celebrated by three or more priest separately without the people. Sometime they celebrated it in group. This happens when a church has more priest including the monasteries.
RED MASS
This Holy Mass was celebrated every year for Judges, Lawyers, teachers and students in Law School and Government Officials to ask for Grace from God. This was first celebrated in 1245 and celebrated on the feast day of St. Ives, patron saint of lawyers. They used the red color because it is the symbol of the Holy Spirit.
BLUE MASS
This Holy Mass for the people who work in Public Safety Field like the police, fire fighters and war veterans. This Mass first celebrated in September 29, 1934 in Washington DC, the feast day of Saint Michael the Archangel, patron saint of Police and Military Soldiers.
GOLD MASS
This Holy Mass for Scientist, Science Educators and Students. It was celebrated in the feast day of Saint Albert the Great, patron saint of Natural Sciences and of Scientists. This was first celebrated in 1930s.
WHITE MASS
This Holy Mass is for the members of Medical Profession like the doctors. This was celebrated in the feast of Saint Luke the Evangelist, patron saint of doctors. And first celebrated in 1930s.
ROSE MASS
This Holy Mass is for the people who work on Health Care Institutions like the nurse, dentist, therapist and dietitians. It was first celebrated in 1992 and they used the rose color because it symbolizes life.
CORONATION MASS
Is a Holy Mass for the coronation of a king or queen. It also celebrated when crowning the statue of our Lord Jesus Christ and the Blessed Virgin Mary. One of the examples is the crowning of rose in the head of the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the month of May, this is called the May Crowning.
